May 2013, they will release the revised 2013 DSM. They have taken out the need to lose your periods or to be 85% below body weight to be diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa. This will enable your therapist to give you a more specific diagnosis versus a diagnosis of ED NOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified). With a more specific diagnosis you should find better insurance coverage while in treatment. Eating Disorders are beginning to get the recognition and funding it deserves.
The manual has lists a new category labeled Binge Eating Disorder. This is the most common eating disorder today. If you’ve been struggling with bingeing and feeling ashamed; don’t be so hard on yourself. You are not alone.
