Today we are launching GFED’s blog. GFED was founded to provide funds for scientists to improve and disseminate the best available treatments to the millions of people suffering from eating disorders, and our blog is an important component of this mission.
Eating disorders are complex, debilitating, life-threatening diseases that affect over 30 million people at some point in their lives. Yet, despite their high prevalence rates and devastating medical, psychological, and social complications, eating disorders remain stigmatized and misunderstood phenomena. How has this come to be? Or, more importantly, what can we do about it?
We believe that relevant, state-of-the-art, clinically-informed research will build a broader base of knowledge, which is the key to a more nuanced understanding of eating disorders.
